Cubs, Rizzo Agree To 7-Year Extension

(CBS) The Cubs have locked up another big piece of their future.

According to multiple reports, first baseman Anthony Rizzo has agreed to a seven-year, $41 million contract extension that includes two club options.

The Chicago Tribune reports the deal could be worth $68 million if those club options are exercised.

The deal replaces his current one-year contract, meaning the Cubs have Rizzo locked up through at least 2019.

Last year, the Cubs signed shortstop Starlin Castro to a seven-year, $60 million contract that included an option for 2020.

Rizzo is currently hitting .280 with nine home runs and 28 RBI through 37 games despite a slow start to the season.
